The Ready-Made-Garments {RMG} Sustainability Council (RSC) is an unprecedented initiative to carry forward the significant accomplishments made on workplace safety in Bangladesh. The RSC conducts structural, electrical, fire and boiler safety inspections, support and monitor remediation, conduct safety training and operate an independent safety & health complaints mechanism available to workers in RMG factories in Bangladesh.
The RSC seeks a Chief Safety Officer (CSO) to continue the work of ensuring worker safety in the Bangladesh Ready Made Garment. Reporting to the board of the RSC, the position will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh
Job Responsibilities
- KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES will include but will not necessarily be limited to:
- Evaluating Factory Safety:
- The CSO will continue the effort to train, develop, deploy and supervise an inspectorate capable of evaluating fire, electrical, structural and boiler safety in Bangladesh Ready-Made-Garment (RMG) factories, and in associated factories, which supply the RSC associated Brands.
- Improving Inspection Standards:
- The CSO will recommend to the Board enhanced methods of ensuring improve compliance with NTPA standards, taking into account experience gained during the seven years of the Bangladesh Accord for Fire and Building Safety.
- Balancing Priorities and Completing Remediation
- The CSO will especially lead the continued training and development of the engineering team, strategically deploying engineers to balance higher risk cases with the need to complete remediation at ALL factories which supply RSC brands. The CSO will recommend to the Board methodologies for accelerating the completion of remediation as quickly as possible without compromising safety standards.
- Supporting Bangladesh safety initiatives
- The CSO will lead the RSC's work in supporting local regulatory bodies such as in developing credible and comprehensive safety inspection and safety enforcement protocols, systems and data collection / reporting mechanisms.
- Supporting Worker Safety Awareness
- The CSO will support the RSC training initiatives, especially with regard to fire detection and prevention, as well as evacuation methods and the need for practice drills

- Professional certification or licensing by a major national or international body
- Minimum 15 years relevant experience

- Some knowledge of human and labour rights
